Career Profile
Natalie Pica graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University, with a B.S in Biology and a minor in Women’s Studies. While at Georgetown, Natalie was a Howard Hughes Undergraduate Research Fellow and also received the Barry Goldwater Scholarship for excellence in undergraduate research. In 2006, Natalie was inducted into the Sigma Xi and Phi Beta Kappa honor societies. Following graduation, Natalie was accepted to the Medical Scientist Training Program at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Her dissertation work in the laboratory of Peter Palese, PhD, focused on understanding the determinants of influenza virus transmission, as well as developing novel vaccination strategies that provide broad and robust protection against influenza virus. Dr. Pica has authored several publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, including Journal of Virology and Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences, as well as several textbook chapters. She is currently an MD candidate, with expected graduation in the spring of 2014.
