Career Profile
Joan Amble, an avid proponent of helping women develop professionally and advance in the workplace, is co-founder and Chair Emeritus of the W.O.M.E.N. In America, Inc. Leadership Program, the mission of which is to enable women to fulfill their maximum potential in the Board Room, the C-Suite, as entrepreneurs, and as leading edge professionals in their chosen profession.

As Executive Vice President and Principal Accounting Officer for the American Express Company (AXP) from 2004 to 2011, Joan was responsible for all controllership finance functions, including oversight of all aspects of the Company's global reporting, financial controls, SOX, technical accounting and M&A Accounting advisory functions. She was also responsible for (Six Sigma) Quality across AXP. Joan retired from AXP December 31, 2011.

Prior to joining American Express, Joan served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of GE Capital Markets. From 1994 to 2003, she served as Vice President and Controller for GE Financial Services. Her prior roles with GE were CFO of GE Commercial Real Estate (1992-1994); Technical Advisor for GE Structured Finance Group (1991-1992); and Technical Advisor for GE HQ (1989-1991).

Prior to joining the General Electric Company, from 1984 to 1989, Joan specialized in derivatives and other financial instruments as well as pensions for the Financial Accounting Standards Board. Joan also spent seven years in public accounting with Ernst & Young specializing in clients in the Real Estate, Financial Services and Consumer Product Industries..

Joan serves on the Board of Directors of Sirius XM Satellite Radio as Chairman of the Audit Committee, as well as on the Board of Brown Forman and Booz Allen Hamilton. She is also on the inaugural Board of Overseers for UCLA Health Systems comprising the UCLA hospitals and affiliated medical facilities. She recently completed her term as a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council, the technical advisory board to the FASB.

Joan, an inactive CPA, obtained her undergraduate degree from The Pennsylvania State University, where she recently competed her term on the Board of Visitors for Smeal College of Business and the Smeal College Accounting Advisory Board. In 2005, Joan was honored with the Penn State Alumni Fellow Award, and in 1996 was named the Smeal College of Business Department of Accounting's Alumna of the Year. In 2010, Joan received the Pennsylvania State University Distinguished Alumni Award. Also in 2010, she served as the business sponsor for the inaugural Partners in Business Ethics Symposium, , an annual event co-hosted by a leading business school and a corporation aimed at promoting business ethics in academia and corporate America.

Joan and her husband David’s primary residence is in Connecticut. They have two daughters: Susan, a litigator, and Catherine, a medical student; and two granddaughters.
